What is Metadata?

Metadata is information that describes other data. It provides information about content items. For example, image metadata includes the description of what is depicted in the image, when the image was created, its resolution, and other data. Text document metadata can be about the length of the document, the author’s name, the date when a document was written, a short summary and so on.
